Fair enough

So I survived another Auckland Art and Craft Fair, thanks to everyone who stopped by, even if it was just to giggle/guffaw at my Animal Power lions or Zombie Resume. As per usual I didn't get any snaps of my stall but here's one that Ellie of Extra Curricular took.

I had some new giclee prints available too, here is a terrible photo of them ready to be editioned.

Once I get some better photos of them I will put them on my etsy so y'all can buy them, or you can send me a message on my facebook page.

Match made in Wellington

I now have a bunch of my stuff stocked at the super cool Matchbox Studios in Wellington, they're a shop and gallery and are full of amazing wares (i.e. cat/rabbit/dog temporary tattoos!!). So if you're in the market for prints/cards/postcards/bookplates and you're in Wellington pop in, and if you're not in Welly you can browse their online shop, win win!

The wonder wares - purchases and trades from the Auckland Zinefest

I didn't even get a proper look around, being tied to my table but there was tons of great stuff at this years Zinefest, here's a few treasures I gleaned.

The ridiculously talented Buzzferkchurnt selling his hand coloured prints at crazy low prices

And again

On the left: Seeing With Closed Eyes by Liam Bowen
On the Right: Geo by Angeline Chirnside

Liam draws funny comics of his weird dreams

Angeline's Geo is full of fascinating conversations on geodesic domes, NZ history, communist architecture, laughter crystals and fan fiction.

Health, Wealth and Happiness, "a found-art nightmare catalogue"
Highly saturated de and re-assembled ephemera

New surprises on each page

A wonder to behold

I am slowly amassing a collection of 'Let Me Be Franks'
They are soo addictive

Postcards!

I'm slowly getting prints and other bits n pieces together for Chromacon, here are the postcards I ordered, just arrived today. Although the photo of the back is a little obscured by the flash, but if you look closely you'll see that I put a website address at the bottom, exciting stuff! Although it's not ready yet so don't go there yet.

Going potty

In the British sense, not the American one. You may recognise these plants from my Wooly Bully paintings, I'm resurrecting them, you see I really want to get some fabric printed, maybe with this design and the other one, the potted plants, pears and pineapples print I did a couple of months back. Just searching round for places to get them printed.

Melbourne exhibition!!

My first international exhibition is at Wooly Bully, which is the best shop in Australia, a comics shop/record store/cafe which also sells hot sauce!! Everybody wins!! I'll be selling some screen prints, tote bags and other art bits, come by if you're in Melbourne!

Screen printed booklplate

I've managed to produce a few of these, even though I'm not so hot at registration and at least half of them were too crooked to use, but at least the colours came out well. It's hard to see in the photo but the black is more of a dark bluish green. The print is modified from the bookplate stamp I made my sister last year, she's a total bibliophile and stamps all her books before lending them out.
I'm thinking of selling these in sets of two or three, but I'm not too sure how much to charge for them, any suggestions?

Toting totes

Finally printed some tote bags! At the moment I have my Kathmandu Cat-man in black on cream  and my Castle print in white on black. The bags are made of 100% cotton canvas. I currently have them for sale at the Audio Foundation shop in Auckland for $15 each and will be bringing some to Melbourne for my mini-exhibition at the best shop in Australia, Wooly Bully (more on that soon). Currently looking for more stockists too.

The ever transforming White Lady

I've been reading about 'White Ladies' which are a sort of ghost archetype. They normally appear in rural areas and are associated with a local tragedy, but there are local varieties all around the world. This drawing is of a Norwegian White Lady (Den Hvite Dame), she threw herself off the Fredriksten Fortress after her lover got hit by a cannonball. She is said to appear at midnight and sometimes sort of waves to people.

This was my initial sketch which I teased out into a print design (below)

But my blue layer got held up in the screenprinting process so she's just one colour at the moment. I love screenprinting but aren't particularly good at it yet.

Then I decided she wasn't quite ghostly enough so lobbed off her feet, changed her dress and went back to trusty pencil.

Totes

I recently got some tote bags printed with some vouchers I had for a print place, I was in a bit of a hurry to use them before they expired so I just put some old designs on. I'm currently studying a postgraduate diploma in illustration and have access to screenprinting facilities so maybe I'll do some of these suckers to sell.

Through an unfortunate accident with an irate wizard a small man became fused to his large cat, thus the Kathmandu Catman was born. They are prone to argue amongst themselves, mostly about directions and what's for tea, yet they make a stylish addition to this heavy duty canvas tote.

A selection of treasure gleaned from far away places

A limited edition Lilli Carre screenprint from the San Francisco zine fest. This makes me so happy.

#1 and #3 of the Talamaroo comics by Alabaster, also from the SF zine fest

Raser Ma Tête by Joe Villion from Le Petit Mignon, Berlin.

Raser Ma Tête is all in German but it's pretty easy to follow what goes on. Printed in eye-popping highlighter orange and green.

Die Drei by Benedikt Ruger, also from Le Petit Mignon.

It's a wordless zine about planks of wood which have a existential crisis, top notch stuff and lovely wood textures.

EARTHBARF by Jangojim. Jangojim is Belgian but I met him at the SF zine fest. Volcanoes as the earth vomiting is a winning concept.

Showing off my model boats and white horses, neither of which are new. The anchor is new though, it's from Mystic Seaport, ooOOOoo.

This fellow twirls about too much to be of use for an actual corkscrew, but he is a fairly new acquisition, from the not-so-far away Grey Lynn.

Elvis clock with rockin pendulum legs from Memphis, Tennessee.

Lets get physical!

While I've been busy saving my clams for other climes shit has been getting real.
Radio as Paper #6 hit the streets last month and boy it is one hell of a classy publication. Here are some pics of the launch in Leipzig and here is a list of stockists

Mossopolis the 7" by Nigel Wright is out now too, I don't have a proper picture of it yet but here's a pic of the printed covers to prove I'm not lying.
Ya'll can listen to Nigel's beautiful track on his bandcamp here.
Radio As Paper and Mossopolis are both available form the new Audio Foundation hub, at 4 Poynton tce, Newton, Auckland, NZ.
