Latest cards fresh from the printer

Here's my new Seal of Approval design in print, just need to get envelopes for it then it'll be ready to go. I also changed the colours on my Best Wishes card to freshen it up too. I'll be putting these on my online store (and shops around Auckland) soon.

Ramp it up

I was delighted to be asked by the lovely people at Ramp Gallery in Hamilton to send down some zines for their Small Press exhibition, a "survey of some of the best Australiasian fanzines from recent years" according to their website. Here's a recent commission for a friend, based on my Hello dog card design. Sausage dog demonstrates his stretchiness again. 

Seal of Approval x 2

This is my latest card design, the Seal of Approval, haw haw. I initially wasn't happy with the first design so I did another one, but then I added some detail to the sea and now I like him better, I'd be keen to know which one other people like though. Seals are pretty fun to paint, great for drybrush.

I'll be vending hard at the next Auckland Art and Craft Fair, Saturday the 28th of June, lock it into yr diaries! I'll post an update about the new things I'll be selling once plans are more concrete.

Happy Easter everyone, here's one of my egg paintings from the Hot X Buns exhibition.

I had a wee job for a friend to do an image of a female explorer with a giant magnifying glass. As I always really like getting an inside view into other peoples process I thought I'd include my process sketches too.

Egg head

Another painting for Hot X Buns which is on this weekend Friday 11th April, 6pm - late, Saturday 12th April, 11am - 4pm, Sunday 13th April, 11am - 4pm. On Sunday there will be hot cross buns, from Bread & Butter Bakery and Cafe, Kokako Organic Coffee and hot chocolate in the studio. From 1pm the Quick Draw sketch gang will be in the studio, come along and commission an on-the-spot portrait for only $10 (realistic or monster version).

HOT X BUNS

I was lucky enough to be asked to put some work in this upcoming exhibition, I'll be alongside a bunch of super talented ladies. The exhibition is only up for a few days but there are events on the Friday (the opening) and Sunday (closing) and we have lots of great sponsors for all the major food groups; beer, gin, coffee, hot chocolate and, of course hot cross buns.

As we are all illustrators there will also be prints/cards/postcards for sale so even if you don't want to shell out the big bucks you'll be able to afford something.

You egg

These are a couple of works for an Easter exhibition, 'Hot X Buns' which will take place above St Kevin's Arcade in Auckland. The exhibition will up from the 11th-14th of April. More info to come!

Stock take

I'm slowly getting my cards stocked at Auckland's best independent book shops, so far I have them at magnificent Time Out in Mt Eden and the marvelous Unity Books in the city. Now to not spend all my earnings on more wonderful books.

New in town

My cards arrived yesterday, here's a couple of shots of my sausage friend in some sunny spots. The bottom pic is the card with the original.

I should have this friendly fellow ready by next week or so. If it looks a little familiar that will be because I based on my Dasch it! sketch from last year, love that colour combo of purple, brown and red.
Also some of my cards are now available at the wonderful Time Out Bookstore in Mt Eden, Auckland.

I've been making the most of this beautiful weather by (finally) photographing my cards, they are now available on my Etsy shop. Next on my to do list is updating Felt shop (for those in NZ) so stay tuned.

Sketchbook doodles in paint

My sketchbook is mostly filled with rough drafts and scratchy pencil drawings, these days I much prefer paint to pencil. These are a couple of recent paint sketches, feeling spooky!

Noo yeah

Happy 2014! Here's a little summery sketch which I didn't end up developing. Wish 2014 was the year of the gator but maybe it's time to get better at drawing horses. Hope my fellow Southern hemisphere dwellers are having a great summer (apologies Northern pals..)

Pull up to the (Summer) Bumper, baby

Here's a job I did for the awesome folks at Grove Guide for their Summer Bumper issue, a cover image and a map of NZ to show the new years hot spots. It was fun doing some lettering for a change too. Want to be swimming RIGHT NOW.
