House of Cards sneak peek

This watercolour painting is for Seed Gallery's House of Cards exhibition, I'm a bit moth obsessed at the moment.
Designing playing cards is something I've wanted to do for about 10 years so I jumped at the chance to be part of the exhibition. They've asked 27 artists to design two cards in the deck, I got the Jack of Hearts and the 8 of Clubs.
Below is my first attempt at the 8 of Clubs, I didn't leave enough of a margin for the numbers and I'm not too fond of it anymore so I'm re doing it.

The exhibition opens on the 7th of July and goes from the 8th-25th. There's more info here

Become slightly obsessed with the phenomenon of surfing dogs..

I wanted this poster to look like an old record sleeve, I think it came out pretty well. It was actually kind of fun making fake wrinkles and distressed marks. Come along if you be in Auckland.

Repeateat

I used to be really into repeating patterns, its something I want to get back into, so satisfying! I made this one a while back from a design I did in a sketchbook, just took a little bit of tweaking. You can use it as a desktop if you like...

Skuzzbook Jungle

Master Moth

This is a drawing for a little book I'm making. Its an epic poem about a spider who is the captain of a ship, all his crew-mates are moths, flies or fleas. Most of them meet a grizzly end.

                               Master Moth was whipped overboard,
By an unfastened length of cord,
The crew searched for some form of assistance,
But by then the moth was at quite a distance,
Then the waters around him began to teem,
With hundreds of greedy eyed sea bream...

Zombie Resume

My Zombie Resume is going to be in the next issue of Radio As Paper
Radio As Paper is published by the talented and hardworking Jerome Bihan, the Auckland launch for the new issue is at Dry Dairy on the 25th of March. It will also be launched in Wellington at The Russian Frost Farmers (I think) and somewhere in Christchurch too. Check the Radio As Paper blog for details.

new old stuff- Hoopla

These little pieces were for a show at Seed Gallery, where I interned last year. The show was called Hoopla, we were each given 10 wooden hoops to make into some art. I would of liked to have done something more elaborate, like little dioramas or some such, but time and reimbursement from their sale prevented me. But at least 9 of them sold, woop. They're all gouache except for the bottom right. Here's the link to the exhibition... zing.
I'm currently working on another Seed Gallery project, House of Cards. They've given two playing cards to 26 artists to reinterpret, I've got the 8 of clubs and Jack of hearts and am working in watercolour this time. I get a pack of cards out of it and can sell my work for however much I like.

Kevin Blechdom!!!

The High Seas (+ Cheese on Toast) is presenting Kevin Blechdom!!!! So I got to do the poster for it, it was a really fun one to do, put it all together on photoshop. Thank god there are so many ridiculous cat photos on the internet!
I'm super excited about the show, Kevin Blechdom is one of my favourites and last time she played it was stunning, the guts! the nudity!
There's a good sample album of hers from a radio interview on PBSfm which is available on the free music archive here.

Some Drawings

These drawings were in Draw III, the first show at The High Seas. The top two are a purplish/black ink I got in Berlin on watercolour paper. The bottom one is indian ink and an old sienna ink that I found in the inorganic collection.
More images of the show can be seen here http://blog.thehighseas.co.nz/2009/09/draw-iii.html
